PREVIOUS EVENTS Nigel was involved with:

EXHIBITIONS
 :

The well known Arts & Crafts house, Blackwell's, held it's annual historic exhibition between 17 July – 1 November 2009 under the title: James Powell & Sons of Whitefriars: Arts & Crafts Glass-makers, .

This exhibition examined Whitefriars glass from the 1860s through to the 1920s, looking at the ranges developed, its international reputation, and some of the relationships and design collaborations developed by Harry Powell, James Powell’s grandson.

20th Century Glass are very pleased to have been associated with such an important and worthwhile exhibition that gave an insight into the work produced by this extraordinary company during this era.

NOTE: Following a request by the Glass Association all the exhibitors have agreed to have their items photographed for a record of the exhibition to be housed on the Glass Association website. The photography has begun, but the finished captioned pictures will not appear until later this year.

"GARDEN WITHIN DOORS"  - The Geffrye Museum, Kingsland Road, London E2 8EA

Tuesday 30 March 2010 - Sunday 25 July 2010

This was an exhibition looking at the use of plants and flowers in the home whilst investigateing the meanings and values associated with indoor plants and focusing on the long 19th century (1800-1914). This naturally encompassed the use of vessels to hold the displays, whether cut, or growing. It was an interesting and enlightening experience and we were very pleased to be associated with the exhibition, having loaned early Powell.

SCOTLAND's GLASS, CONFERENCE 2010:

This was held at Edinburgh College of Art which has a long association with glass, particularly with glass engraving, having been set up by Helen Monro (later Monro-Turner). Although attandance was less than hoped the conference was a resounding success, involving people interested in the history of glass and its production both hitorically and contemporary.

There were lectures and demonstrations which were also well attended by current students from the department. There will be more post conference information available at www.scotlandsglass.co.uk
